The food is excellent. Cozy spot for good middle eastern food. Finished the meal off with Turkish coffee and dessert. Tasted just like a home-cooked meal. Definitely would come back here.
I found this spot after googling for Mediterranean food near my job. It had enough tables for my co-worker and I to choose and is very clean. The staff was very accommodating and friendly when we asked about their food and drinks. I decided to go with a falafel and Turkish tea, which were a gift from the food gods to my belly. I also recommend the Turkish coffee, which I've had during my second visit. In overall, I highly recommend if you're in the mood for Mediterranean food.
Walked in as a party of 10 and was immediately accommodated (luckily a prior reservation had canceled). The owner (I assume) was extremely sweet and patient with our party. We tried everything from the donners , to pide's, to the platters. Everything was great!! I would recommend the pide the most, and would try not to order gyro's. They're not the traditional gyro and are more meat than bread which can make it hard to eat. Turkish tea was a refreshing after meal drink which I would highly recommend.
Authentic gourmet Turkish food that you'd find in an Aspava somewhere in Ankara. Brought back feelings of home. Excellent service, kind management, and the seating was spacious and comfortable. Classical, no BS setting with food made with love and care. I recommend the İskender!
I've eaten in and ordered from Sophra many times. Frankly everything is good, and the lentil soup is delicious, but the star by far among the many great options is the lamb sandwich. Made on freshly baked house bread, the sandwiches are filling and delicious without being greasy or heavy at all. Oftentimes I order two just so I have a second one for the next day, as they're just as good cold as they are hot & fresh. Also, really good lahmajuns (crispy & savory) and baklava, too.
Been here recently for lunch and its amazinggg. The food tastes soo good and serving size is huge. Very authetic and freshly cooked. Service is nicest- also a walk from 33rd street station. Tried their Feta cheese rolls for apetizer which were great. Their Shish kabab platter and mixed plate were delicious. Comes with rice and salad and just the cherry on top! Will defo go back for more deliciousness!
Recently dined at Sophra Grill and had a great experience overall. I ordered the mixed appetizer platter, the mixed lamb and chicken gyro platter, and a lahmacun. The food was delicious across the board, with each dish standing out in its own way. The mixed lamb and chicken gyro platter was particularly impressive--the meat was perfectly balanced between juicy and crisp, making each bite satisfying. The mixed appetizer platter offered a flavorful variety that set the tone for the meal. One of the highlights was the lahmacun. The staff was kind enough to teach me how to properly enjoy it, which I appreciated. For those new to it, you roll the lahmacun into a cigar shape with the provided salad and sauce, and it truly elevates the experience. My only complaint was that the restaurant was a bit hot and stuffy, which was made worse by the muggy weather outside. However, despite the heat, the quality of the food made it well worth the visit.
JOHN / JOHNNY is the nicest best guy to deal with for in-house orders or delivery. Give that man a raise and a promotion. He's the highlight! The food is solid. Love the Pide with mozzarella and feta I just tried. My husband loves the Sophra (cheese)burger -- it's tasty, and he digs the octopus. I will say that I used to order delivery here but I got a little skeeved out during the pandemic -- when some of the folks that worked there (who I assumed were the owners due to their age and lack of awareness) were putting the condiments together at tables out in the open wearing winter coats. It just didn't look right. But that time period is over, In the past, I also saw employees, who I'm again assuming are owners, smoking right outside their restaurant. Again, it's a matter of hygiene and respect for your restaurant and customers. I didn't see that last time, so I won't penalize the restaurant for past grievances, but I can't necessarily erase that from my mind. I will say that this place excels at takeout -- but doesn't quite have the same standard for dining in. The tables and chairs aren't wiped and prepped every time some one leaves. So it feels a little more like cafeteria style. I think the restaurant just needs to decide one way or another one the look/feel. Should it feel like a self-serve cafeteria where it's no-frills at the table, or should it match the price and be a little more restaurant-y. :) But either way, I'll say, the food is yummy -- the John(ny) is the BEST!
The beets salad was crisp and refreshing. We also got the spinach pide which was warm and comforting with gooey cheese on the inside. My surprise favorite was the eggplant with sauce which was a cold appetizer (which I don't usually go for). Lastly, we got the variety meat platter which was a hefty dish that the 4 of us shared. I was really glad that we got to try the different types of meat they offer.
